Michelle at Making it as a Middle School Teacher aka Making it (and smiling) had a great idea for a link up party, as we all prepare for a new year to begin.    You'll notice that the oh so common weight loss and organizational goals are both prominently featured on my list of resolutions!

If you have questions about anything coming up for me, my blog-room door is always open.  I feel like I've actually already made so many more goals than I can possibly list in these little bubble-spaces. Ha!

What do you expect the upcoming year will hold for you?  I'd love for you to tell me about it in the comments below, even if it's later in the year when you have news that you can share!

Happy New Year!

  1. Hi! I found your blog through the Year in Preview Linky! I too would love to embrace the BYOD in my school, but it is so hard for me to trust students to use their device for educational purposes while at school. How do you include them or plan to include them in the upcoming year? By the way I love that you are in France! I can't believe you are planning to come to Disneyworld.

    In addition...I'm your newest follower!

  2. I also found you through the Year In Preview linky! Just making sure....does BYOD stand for bring your own device? I would love to hear how you manage that, because I've often wondered if my fourthies could handle it! I also think you personal goal to drink more water is a great one...I'll join you!

Thanks for sharing your ideas! I'm a new follower!

    1. Thanks for commenting Nichole,

That's right, BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device. I've also seen it called "BYOT" for "technology" instead. I think that they could handle it in small doses, with clearly defined learning goals and a well-planned lesson, with super clear expectations around the usage. (That's asking for a LOT of clarity, I know!) But why not try it, with QR codes for self-checking solutions for example, or maybe as a group webquest?

Thanks for following! I hope I provide some interesting ideas for you - I'm all about collaboration!

  3. Pst... I'm actually in Canada, but my class corresponds with a school in the area of Disneyworld Paris! Interesting coincidence. :-)

It IS hard to trust the students, but we weren't exactly given the choice. BYOD is a board initiative, and the expectation that we will be teaching the students to be proper digital citizens (more on that in upcoming blog posts!)

The easist way for me to include them has just been to STOP banning them, and let the students use their devices naturally for research, note-taking, as organizational tools... all the usual stuff that they do in their daily lives outside of school. One thing I've been doing more of, is referring to good web sites "for more info" during my lessons. In the past, one or two students might have gone home and looked at something, but now several have the ability to follow their interests right there during class time! That part is cool! Getting them not to take photos of each other and to play Minecraft... well, as I said, more on THAT later!

  4. Hi,
I just found your blog through the linky. I love your goal about drinking more water. I think I'm going to add that to my to do list too. Have a great New Year.

  5. Hey Tammy!

Thanks so much for linking up and joining in the fun!

I remember when my little ones started Kindergarten. They are now 18, 20, and 22. The times really flies!

Best of luck with your goals!

    1. Always glad to link up with you, Michelle! Love your blog!

  6. I wonder how many BINDERS I have in my room, next to piles of papers, on shelves but full of stuff that should be in trash, and in cabinets??? Too many to admit! I started the "water" thing about a week ago...well, trying to get in habit of it, but lots closer than before towards making it habit!

    1. I have the excuse of "new room, new program" but I gotta get myself shaped up before the end of the year creeps up on me!

Good luck with the water thing! :-)

I love to hear from other bloggers (especially teachers!)
